How to connect your AI agent

about 10 minutes

You can connect an AI agent, such as Claude or Cursor, to your workspace. The agent can then read your boards, statistics and documents, and make changes for you. It uses a personal API key. The key works like a password for the agent.

Before you start

Each person makes their own key. The agent can only do what your role allows. A member who cannot change a board cannot change it through an agent either.

You need an AI tool that can connect to an MCP server and send a header with each request. MCP is the standard way for AI tools to use other apps. Claude Code, Claude Desktop and Cursor can do this. Some Claude accounts can also do it on the Claude website (see Step 7).

Step 1 — Open API keys

Click your account button at the bottom of the sidebar. Click Settings in the menu. Click API keys.

Step 2 — Choose a name and the tool access

Under New key, enter a Name. Use the name of the AI tool, for example “Claude on my laptop.” Then you know which key to revoke later.

Under Tool access, choose one:

  • Read only: the agent can read boards, statistics and documents. It cannot change anything. This is the default.
  • Everything: the agent can also enter statistic values, edit boards, remove boxes and make new boards.
  • Custom: you choose the tools one by one, in groups.

Start with Read only. You can change the access later with Edit access.

Step 3 — Create and copy the key

Click Create key. Click Copy. Keep the key in a safe place for the next step. The app shows the key only once. Then click Done.

Under How to connect, find the Endpoint. This is the web address of the MCP server. For most workspaces it is:

https://app.orgstatistics.com/api/mcp

In the steps below, put your key where you see YOUR_KEY.

Step 4 — Add OrgStatistics to Claude Code

Open a terminal. Run this command:

claude mcp add --transport http orgstatistics https://app.orgstatistics.com/api/mcp --header "Authorization: Bearer YOUR_KEY"

Start Claude Code. Type /mcp to check that orgstatistics is connected.

Step 5 — Add OrgStatistics to Claude Desktop

Claude Desktop connects to this server through a small helper, mcp-remote. You need Node.js on your computer for it.

In Claude Desktop, open Settings, then Developer, then click Edit Config. Add this to the file, then save it:

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "orgstatistics": {
      "command": "npx",
      "args": ["-y", "mcp-remote", "https://app.orgstatistics.com/api/mcp", "--header", "Authorization:${AUTH_HEADER}"],
      "env": { "AUTH_HEADER": "Bearer YOUR_KEY" }
    }
  }
}

If the file already has an mcpServers list, add only the orgstatistics part to it. Quit Claude Desktop fully and open it again.

Step 6 — Add OrgStatistics to Cursor

In Cursor, open Customize in the sidebar to see and turn on your MCP servers. To add OrgStatistics, edit the file ~/.cursor/mcp.json:

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "orgstatistics": {
      "url": "https://app.orgstatistics.com/api/mcp",
      "headers": { "Authorization": "Bearer YOUR_KEY" }
    }
  }
}

Step 7 — Other AI tools

Most MCP tools ask for the same three things:

  • Server type: HTTP (also called “Streamable HTTP”).
  • URL: the Endpoint from Step 3.
  • Header: Authorization with the value Bearer YOUR_KEY.

Claude website (custom connector). Some Claude accounts can send a header from a custom connector. This is a beta, and only some organizations have it.

  1. Open Customize, then Connectors. Click Add custom connector. On a Team or Enterprise plan, an Owner adds it in Organization settings, then Connectors.
  2. Enter the Endpoint from Step 3 as the server URL.
  3. For Authentication, choose No sign-in.
  4. Open Request headers. Choose the authorization header. Enter the value Bearer YOUR_KEY, with the word Bearer and a space before the key. Click Add.

If you do not see Request headers, your account does not have it yet. Use Claude Desktop with the mcp-remote helper from Step 5 instead.

Some other tools, such as ChatGPT connectors, only offer a sign-in screen. They do not let you add a header. These tools cannot use an OrgStatistics key yet.

Step 8 — Install the OrgStatistics skill

The skill teaches the agent the OrgStatistics words and a safe way to work. The server also sends this guidance when the agent connects. The skill helps tools that do not show it.

Download the skill: orgstatistics.zip. You can also read the SKILL.md file first.

  • Claude app: first turn on code execution. Skills need it. On a Free, Pro or Max plan, open Settings, then Capabilities, and turn on Code execution and file creation. On a Team or Enterprise plan, an Owner turns it on for the organization. Then open Customize, then Skills. Click +, then Create skill, then Upload a skill. Upload orgstatistics.zip. Turn the skill on.
  • Claude Code: unzip the file. Put the orgstatistics folder in ~/.claude/skills/, so the file is at ~/.claude/skills/orgstatistics/SKILL.md. Start Claude Code again.

What the agent can and cannot do

The agent can:

  • Read boards, posts, holders, statistics, SOPs, policies, checklists, flowcharts, documents, the glossary and calendar events.
  • Enter weekly statistic values, if the key allows it.
  • Add, edit, move, copy and remove boxes, and make new boards, if the key allows it.

Every board change makes a new revision. If the agent makes a mistake, ask it to restore the revision before the change. You can also do this yourself in the app.

The agent cannot work with training courses, tasks, projects, routing forms or the directory yet. It cannot change members, billing or workspace settings. It can make at most about 60 requests a minute.

Good agents tell you what they will change and ask before they remove things. Read what the agent says before you say yes.

Keep the key secret

Treat the key like a password. Do not paste it in a chat, an email, or a shared file. Anyone who has the key can act as you in this workspace, with the access you gave the key.

If you think someone else has the key, revoke it at once. Open Settings, then API keys. Find the key by its name, click Revoke, then Confirm revoke. The key stops working. Make a new key for your AI tool.
